Rent a Porsche Macan in Charleston: Cost, Delivery, Where to Drive It

Most people who search for a Porsche rental in Charleston are picturing a 911 on a wedding day and a bill to match. The car that actually gets booked, week after week, is our white 2016 Porsche Macan S. What the Macan costs to rent

The listed rate is $70 per day. Two things get added on top of that at checkout, and both are set by Turo, not by us:

• Turo's trip fee, a percentage of the trip total.
• A protection plan. Turo offers several tiers with different deductibles. Pick the one that matches your comfort level; the price difference shows on the checkout screen.

Why the Macan and not a sports car

Charleston is a low, flat, water-crossing city. The roads that matter here are the Ravenel Bridge, Highway 17, the Isle of Palms connector, and a lot of narrow downtown streets with tight parking. A two-seat sports car is fun for an hour and a hassle for a weekend. The Macan gives you the Porsche badge and the driving feel with a back seat, a real trunk, and enough ground clearance for a beach-house driveway. Where to drive it

Ravenel Bridge to Sullivan's Island

The classic. Cross the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge from downtown into Mount Pleasant, take Coleman Boulevard to Ben Sawyer, and finish on Sullivan's Island. Twenty minutes, one bridge with a skyline view, and a beach at the end.

Highway 17 south to Beaufort

If you want an actual drive, Highway 17 south through the ACE Basin toward Beaufort is about 90 minutes of live oaks and marsh with almost no traffic once you clear West Ashley. Fill up before you leave; stations thin out.

Kiawah and Seabrook

Bohicket Road down to the islands is one of the prettiest stretches near the city. The Macan is a comfortable fit for the resort gates, and the cargo area handles golf bags.

Downtown, honestly

King Street parking garages have tight ramps and the peninsula's side streets are narrow. The Macan is compact enough to handle both, which a full-size luxury SUV is not.

Things to know before you book

• Premium fuel. Bring it back at the level you picked it up; Turo lets us bill for the difference afterward, and that is always the expensive route.
• Photos at check-in. Turo asks for them. Take them. They are your protection as much as ours.
• Messaging. Everything runs through the Turo app. If your plans change, message us there; we operate 24 hours a day.
• Alternatives if it's booked. The Mercedes GLC 300 at $65/day and the BMW X1 at $70/day sit in the same size class. The CLA 250 at $60/day is the sedan option.
